تعاریف کلی
به طور کل شبکه کامپیوتری یک مجموعه از دستگاه ها و یا اتصالاتی است که میان دو یا چند رایانه جهت تبادل اطلاعات و حداکثر استفاده از دنیای اینترنت و شبکه، قرار دارد. تجهیزات شبکه نیز به هر آنچه که برای راه اندازی شبکه های کامپیوتری نیاز است، گفته می شود.
علل و اهداف استفاده از شبکه کامپیوتری و تجهیزات شبکه
مورد 1، به کارگیری منابع به صورت مشترک
منظور از به اشتراک گذاشتن منابع، استفاده از تمام تجهیزات شبکه و اطلاعاتی هستند که در شبکه هستند. به عنوان مثال با کمک شبکه های کامپیوتری در یک شرکت به راحتی می توانید یک عکس یا فایل را میان کارمندان جهت تسریع روند پیشروی کارها به اشتراک بگذارید و اطلاعات با سرعت بیشتر انتقال داده شوند. این مورد از مهمترین مزیت ها می باشد.
مورد 2، مدیریت هزینه ها
برای هر شرکتی قبل از همه چیز مدیریت هزینه ها است که اهمیت دارد. استفاده از شبکه های کامپیوتری در یک شرکت می تواند هزینه ها را کاهش دهد. برای مثال شما می توانید پرینت اطلاعات را به اشتراک گذارید و تنها از یک پرینتر که به تمام کامپیوتر ها وصل است استفاده کنید این یعنی دیگر نیازی نیست ده ها پرینتر خریداری شود.
مورد3، اهمیت زمان و مکان
زمان برای مدیران بسیار ارزشمند است. با استفاده از شبکه های کامپیوتری در حداقل زمان لازم و بدون محدودیت های مکانی و جغرافیایی به هر اطلاعات و داده ای که نیاز دارید دسترسی پیدا کنید. به علت وجود صرفه جویی در زمان پردازش ها سریعتر انجام می شوند و ذخیره کردن و دسترسی دوباره به اطلاعات در تایم بسیار کمتری انجام خواهند گرفت.
باقی ماندن منابع طبیعی و زنده ماندن محیط زیست
در گذشته برای جست و جو درباره کوچکترین مسائل نیاز بود تا چندین کتاب خرید و مطالعه کرد این خرید ها نیاز به تأمین داشت و برای تهیه کاغذ ها می بایست خسارتی هم به محیط زیست و منابع طبیعی وارد می شد. اما حالا به لطف شبکه های کامپیوتری و تجهیزات شبکه و اینترنت موجود در کل دنیا تنها با گذاشتن کمی زمان و بدون نیاز به قطع درختان برای تولید کاغذ به حجم زیادی از اطلاعات دست پیدا می کنیم. اینگونه شبکه های کامپیوتری می توانند در زنده ماندن محیط زیست تأثیر گذار باشند.
حفظ منابع ذخیره ای اطلاعات
به لطف ذخیره سازی یکپارچه اطلاعات دیگر دل نگرانی برای حذف یا ازدست رفتن اطلاعاتمان نداریم. اطلاعات ما به طور کاملا محفوظ در سرور نگهداری می شوند و یک نسخه پشتیبان نیز از آنها تهیه می شود.
سهولت در ارتباطات افراد در شرکت ها و سازمان ها
دیگر فاصله میان شعب مختلف در یک کارخانه، سازمان یا شرکت معنایی ندارد چراکه شبکه کامپیوتری و وجود تجهیزات شبکه می توانند فواصل را کوتاه کنند و موجب تلادل امن اطلاعات میان کارکنان می شود.
